druid's altar walk

The day we crossed the green bridge the river was very full.

Damart chimbley in the distance.

Looking back towards Myrtle Park the 1951 tubular construction can be admired.

Turn right at end of green bridge and head upstream towards an entrance in the woods marked on the left.

Walk up through the woods passing a private mill pond on the right.

Carefully cross the busy Harden Road and continue up Altar Lane which is signposted as being a mile to Druid's Altar.

Altar Lane rises steeply out of Bingley giving good views of the town if you walk backwards.

The views on a fine day standing on Druid's Altar are stunning. The name suggests ancient happenings but there seems to be little evidence.

The Druid's Altar is a huge piece of gritstone looking not unlike an altar.

This view shows Baildon Moor which certainly was inhabited by ancient folk. The Dobrudden Stone has cup and ring markings. I think this stone is now in Cliffe Castle Museum Keighley.

Rooftops of Bingley College can be seen to the mid left.

See panoramic view.
