Druid's Altar Walk

A virtual wander through Bingley and up to the fine view point of Druid's Altar, returning by the same route apart from the last leg along Main Street.

The walk takes about 2 hours at my very slow ambling pace. Use OS Explorer 288 1:25000.

Park up at the back of Safeway and begin heading for Myrtle Park.

Cross over Main Street you can see the Old Library (now wine bar of some sort) where John Braine used to work.

Enter Myrtle Park just south of Bingley Swimming Pool.

Pass the bowling green and an old house which now is occupied by Social Services.

I'm sure this building would have been built by some local important local mill or landowner. More details welcome on this.

Myrtle Park has some fine plants and trees.

Keep heading south towards the bottom of the park.

The bottom meadow at Myrtle Park is a truly wonderful picture.

You wouldn't think the Main Street is 5 mins walk away.

The beautiful scene is marred by rubbish skips from the Bingley Show. The biggest one-day agricultural, horticultural, craft and horse show in Europe, traditionally on the first Wednesday in August.

Bear right towards the metal green foorbridge marked in the picture.

As can be seen, this bridge was built during the Festival of Britain.
