The Centenary
Sunday 24 May 2009 will be 100 years since the Minister for Education, Walter Runciman (below), laid the foundation stone in 1909.

Foundation day is important to me as Walter was born in South Shields, my home town, and went to my old school. It was during his time as MP for Dewsbury 1902 - 1916, that he laid the foundation stone at Bingley College.

Dewsbury is where I now work. Small world?

Volunteers Needed

The centenary of the Foundation Day is just over a year away and is a huge day for anyone connected with Bingley College and the surrounding community.

There will be events throughout the weekend of Fri 22 May - Sunday 24 May 2009 and I have already had offers of organisational support over that weekend.
Over three hundred people are expected to take part in the weekends events and Centenary suggestions so far:- Meeting with speaker, commemorative sweatshirts, singing of the College Song, a Bingley Walk. More ideas needed.
We still need people to help with events so let me know if you are willing.
Celebrations
Many thanks to Ann Poyner (nee Burrow) for this snap of revellers at the 1966 Summer Ball.
Please print out this page and send it to your friends who don't have the internet.
Keep visiting the site regularly for up to date news. Thanks, John.
Research
A treasure trove of Bingley College information was discovered by Alan Cattell at Keighley Library in the shape of the "Alcuin Round Robin".
This diary was started in 1921 by Billee Walton when she left college to take up teaching. The photo below was taken at a reunion 17 May 1947 and shows L to R, Kath Green, Lilian Ireland and Billee.
The Alcuin Round Robin was passed and posted to other students who had left Alcuin Hall. Alcuinites put their news in, as well as college happenings. There are cuttings from newspapers and photos of reunions from 1921 to 1981.
