The Centenary
Sunday 24 May 2009 will be 100 years since the Minister for Education, Walter Runciman (below), laid the foundation stone in 1909.

Foundation day is important to me as Walter was born in South Shields, my home town, and went to my old school. It was during his time as MP for Dewsbury 1902 - 1916, that he laid the foundation stone at Bingley College.

New Supporters

Recently I met with residents of the main college building, now known as The Mansion. They have a residents committee, Sue, Alison, Andrew and others, who are keen to be involved in the Centenary celebrations.

They said they were keen to be involved in the weekend and may be able to organise an event up at college involving present residents and past students. MORE INFORMATION.
Mrs Gill Wilson, the head of Lady Lane Park School, is also positive about the centenary and would like to involve the school if at all possible. The school occupies the former Student Union, Art Rooms and Electric Power Station.
We shall be meeting again in June to discuss plans.

More Helpers and Ideas

Angela Stringer (nee Crawshaw) has kindly offered to organise a collection of memories of Life in Hall. People could contribute their words and pictures of their time in either Hild, Ascham, Alcuin, Priestley or Acland. Angela hopes to put contributions into five books or possibly online. Angela would like your thoughts on this project. Please email her or comment in the Guestbook.

It would also be great if someone would like to organise a Centenary Calendar or Bingley College Sweatshirts. Offers welcome.
