25 May 2010

It's 101 years since Sir Walter Runciman laid the foundation stone at Bingley College.

I asked if friends could send words and photos to show what they were doing on the very day of the 101st anniversary.

The response has been fantastic.

10:30 Luton Urban Primary School : Hi Ted, Well - as asked - here is my photo!  I am in the courtyard of our school in Luton where I am the headteacher. We hatched these chickens and decided to keep some - for better or worse!  As you can see, the children love them!  (Perhaps more than I do!)  Needless to say, the children don't really look like that - they look fairly normal!!  Looking forward to my summer holiday - another great adventure to India this year.  Hope you get a load of photos back - can't wait to see them! Carol Crabtree ~ Dance 1973-76
8:37 : Milford - Connecticut - USA : I have attached a hastily-taken picture that shows me getting ready to take Ava to school this morning.  Not sure if it fits the bill but it's the best I got!! - Brian Tompkins ~ PE 1976-79

14:20 : Hi John, Well, I went up to the Glen pub on Shipley Glen for 101st reunion and I was the only one there!!! Where were you all? I tried to get a photo in a similar place to some of the ones taken last year! Jan 1974-77

17:30 Hi John, Great idea. Sorry this is late though. Only got home on Saturday night after completing the TGO Challenge – 180 miles coast to coast across Scotland in a fortnight. The pics were taken on 25th in the wilds between Braemar & Brechin (& I've just noticed the camera time is wrong). Apart from being misled about the ‘road' bit, it was only a 10 mile day, cool, dry & midgie-free. Strenuous & eventful – a great day. Can't believe it's been a year since the reunion. Happy times.Best wishes,  Chris Shelton-Jones 1968-71

11:30 ~ Hi John, What a great idea! I am in the garden with my fairy bag given to me by Gwen nee Farrow for my birthday - she knows me so well! I am holding a fairy she bought me a couple of years ago and tomorrow I will be taking a group of children to forest school and they will be going on a fairy hunt. She will be hidden in the woods and we will all have a great time hunting for her. As you can see I really am "away with the fairies"!!! Have fun. Angela xx

11:50 ~ John, here's a picture of Jyll at the Gateshead metro centre looking for a dress to wear at the Tynedale wine festival on 4 & 5 June where we (the feathes inn) are doing the food for thousands. I'm just lurking about in the middle of my third week of work with a virus. A new experience for me. Hope the foto follows : Cheers Richard Cradock ~ Drama 1973-76

20:30 - Jeff Houlgrave in Hong Kong ~ PE 1971-74
Finished my lesson prep for tomorrow and doing some sewing! Derbyshire, UK ~ Jan Barrett -

21:35 ~ What a great idea John. No photo from me but I spent Foundation Day 25th May 2010 modelling a particularly elegant leg brace as I recover from a broken leg sustained when skill and speed did not quite match up on a ski trip to France. No photo necessary but hopefully next year might be injury free! Cheers, Marianne x : PE 1973-76
23:40 : Hi John, Only just read your email.  No camera - stolen during a burglary in March! However, during 'The Happy Foundation Day'  I have marked the final drafts of my Year 13 coursework, taught rounders , written a set of reports, umpired a  league rounders match, had a visit from my financial advisor and planned some school work whilst watching TV. In other words i've been involved in absolute absolute s---e for most of the day! Hope you are all well in Elland. Lizzie Grundy ( Hoyle) - PE 1972-75

23:50 - Reading emails after being in Manchester to watch Mark Knopfler canoodle round on his guitar. John Harvey ~ Env. Studs. 1974-77

9.30am - Hi Ted, Great idea. The photo attached (taken today) is of me, Neil Rawlinson, posing next to my 'mid-life crisis' pride and joy on the drive of our house in Tenterden, Kent. Sorry, but it just had to be done! All the best, Neil. ~ PE 1974-77
10.30am ~ John – I have a photo on my iphone but can't transfer it top my dying laptop – send me your mobile number and I will forward it. Steve Jones, Headteacher, snowed under in Surrey by paperwork! PE, Drama and art 74-77
